Blog #4 Meet: Susan Scott
6 questions for Susan
A LOVE story you MUST read! Quitting drinking, rhymes, mocktails, and more...
July 2021, Susan contacted us by sending the message below:
''I love champagne and had to stop drinking for health reasons. I am a registered nurse and understood the chemistry behind it. My husband bought SO many non-ETOH wines. They were disgusting....until he found VINADA!
Now here is the best part! He brings me a "Champagne Cocktail" (VINADA White or Rose with a dash of bitters) every night. Attached to my wine glass stem is a poem! EVERY NIGHT! Loving and sometimes funny! In fact, in our Hurricane evacuation list(we live in Florida) is "Bring the Wine Fairy Poems!" I have saved them all! So, this week, he brought a real glass of Champagne Cocktail because of Hurricane Elsa. YUCK YUCK YUCK!
I wanted my VINADA! It tastes so much better!
Thank you for creating this delicious treat for those of us who can't or shouldn't drink!!!!!!!
Susan Scott''
One to remember and to share. Obviously we were curious to know more about Susan and the poems and contacted her for an interview;
1. Hi Susan, would you please introduce yourself?
Hi VINADA fans! My name is Susan Scott. I am a Registered Nurse (retired) and married to a Registered Nurse (also retired)! We live in Merritt Island, Florida. In fact, we live just a few miles from Cape Canaveral, home of the Space Center. What that means is when the windows in our home start to shake we can step out our front door to watch the latest launch! My husband, Clark, and I worked in Hospice for many years before we retired. That experience helped us realize that life really is short and that maintaining optimal health in order to enjoy every precious day is important.
2. Could you tell us about your quest for NA wines?
I am an older person (NOT old, yet!). Five years ago, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Yes, now I am on a boatload of pills. As an RN, I am aware how alcohol can negatively affect many medications. Now, I love wine and champagne. I love drinking out of my mother’s old crystal. I love the short rhymes my husband writes me EVERY afternoon when he hands me my glass of wine. Then, earlier this year I decided to stop drinking alcohol. We searched and searched. We tried every non-alcoholic beverage we could find. We reached a point where we didn’t know whether to laugh or gag at the horrible non-alcoholic wines available.
3. What is the best thing that happened to you as a result from not drinking alcohol (physical and mentally)?
There are several good things that happened to me after I stopped drinking alcohol. Physically, my blood pressure went down, I quickly lost 5 pounds, and my sleep improved. I wear a device at night that monitors my sleep levels. My REM and my deep sleep increased! I am clear-headed in the morning, and I remember the night before. Mentally, I am so proud of myself for making this change.
4. Do you feel like you miss out on anything when you don't drink alcohol?
Honestly, I do miss one thing about not drinking alcohol. We have “date night” every Friday night. We go to one of our favorite places, sit at the bar and enjoy a good meal. BUT…there is NO VINADA anywhere around here yet!
5. What would you advise people who are considering not drinking alcohol?
To those considering not drinking alcohol: It helped me to make a list of the Pro’s and Con’s of drinking. Don’t forget to include what alcohol does to any relationship you may have, family members who depend on you, how the “day after’s” affect your life and your health.
6. What is your favorite mocktail your husband brings you?
My favorite mocktail Clark brings me:
5 oz VINADA Iberian Gold Bubble (Amazing Airén)
2 dashes Angostura Bitter
I am excited to be able to share your story with our VINADA followers and help bring in the awesome view you have on life and the love you share for each other.
Cheers to you both. What you have together is really special.
Cheers,
Roos
